TRACK NEWS: Chip Foose To Pace Homestead Finale in Foose Edition F-150
~TruckSeries.com Report

Two of Ford’s hottest products for 2008 – the Mustang Bullitt and the Ford F-150 Foose Edition - have been selected to pace the three Ford Championship Weekend NASCAR races at Homestead-Miami Speedway Nov. 16-18.

The Mustang Bullitt, unveiled for media last week in San Francisco, will pace the Ford 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup finale, and the Ford 300 NASCAR Busch Series finale.   The F-150 Foose Edition will pace the season-ending Ford 200 Craftsman Truck event.

“Ford Championship Weekend, with big crowds and a national TV audience, is a tremendous opportunity to showcase Ford’s great products,” said Jamie Allison, manager, Ford Performance Group.  “And the Bullitt and F-150 Foose Edition are certainly two of the most anticipated high-performance products from Ford coming for 2008.”

The Mustang Bullitt returns to the streets in 2008, blending the latest in Ford Racing technology with the best Mustang ever.   The classic nameplate returns to wow enthusiasts with a blend of high performance, handling and the power that is expected from Mustang.

The latest version of the Bullitt will, of course, be Highland Green, true to the original car in the 1968 “Bullitt” movie.    It will feature a unique black mesh grille and special interior touches, and will deliver 315 horsepower out of the 4.6-liter, 3-valve, SOHC V-8.

“Ford Racing supplied the parts packs for this car, complete with a Ford Racing pedigree,” said Allison.  “Many of the suspension and powertrain components were inspired by the development of the championship-winning Mustang FR500C race car, so it features our latest technology.  This whole effort was a great collaboration between Team Mustang and the engineers at the Ford Racing Performance Group.”

The Ford F-150 Foose Edition is the ultimate street tough F-150, as noted hot rod designer Chip Foose, star of TV’s “Overhaulin’” put his design stamp on America’s favorite pickup truck.   Foose’s design lowers the truck in the boulevard-spirit, while maintaining the Ford F-150’s Built Ford Tough heritage.

The 2008 F-F150 Foose Edition is the most powerful half-ton truck on the market, with a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 delivering 450 horsepower and 500 lbs.-ft. of torque.

The Foose Edition F-150 was first discussed at the 2006 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas, and one year later it is a reality.

Foose himself will climb behind the wheel of the F-150 Friday evening as the celebrity pace truck driver for the Ford 200 Craftsman Truck finale.

“The F-150 Foose Edition is one more example of Ford’s ‘go-fast’ process to bring unique niche vehicles to the marketplace,” said Allison.  “It’s the same process that brought forth the Shelby GT500 and next year’s Shelby King of the Road.

“We always select some of our every best production vehicles to pace the Ford Championship Weekend,” added Allison.  “When you think about the performance that’s needed to pace NASCAR race cars on track, the Bullitt and the F-150 Foose Edition are the type of vehicles you need.”

Each of the pace vehicles have been equipped for their pace car duties with special decal packages and light bars.

- Noted hot rod designer Chip Foose to be celebrity pace car driver for Ford 200

- Two of Ford’s hottest new performance vehicles take the stage at Ford and NASCAR’s championship weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway Nov. 16-18.

- The 2008 Mustang Bullitt will pace the Ford 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup finale and the Ford 300 NASCAR Busch Series finale.

- The 2008 Ford F-150 Foose Edition will pace the Ford 200 NASCAR Craftsman Truck finale, and noted hot rod designer Chip Foose will be the celebrity pace truck driver.

- The Mustang Bullitt blends the latest in Ford Racing technology with the best Mustang ever.

- The Ford F-150 Foose Edition is the ultimate “street tough” F-150.

Truck Race Takes Center Stage at Homestead
SPEED Press Release

For the 12th time in 13 seasons, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series title fight is coming down to the final race of the season, as only 29 points separate former champions Mike Skinner (1995) and Ron Hornaday Jr. (’96, ’98) heading into Friday night’s race at Homestead.

With the NASCAR Busch Series title long since decided and defending champ Jimmie Johnson leading Hendrick teammate Jeff Gordon by nearly 90 points for the Nextel Cup title, the Truck Series battle is now the undeniable headliner for NASCAR Championship Week in South Florida. Skinner vs. Hornaday. Toyota vs. Chevy.

“I think if someone knew why the Truck Series championship always goes down to the last race of the year, they would build it into the Busch Series and fix their points battle situation,” said Krista Voda, host of the SPEED NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series pre-race show NCTS Setup. “I think the Truck Series has such a phenomenal battle because of the level of competition across the board. Even the Cup drivers who come into the Truck Series to race for a few select events say the same thing.

“It’s just so competitive,” Voda added. “The level of teams doesn’t drop off across the board as much (as they do in the other series) and it’s pretty level across the playing field. There’s not the A, B and C levels of teams that you tend to see in the Cup Series. Also, there are so many guys with experience under their belts. You’ve got the older guys who know how to save their trucks and be patient, and so many guys at the end of the race who haven’t fallen off, as well. The younger guys are learning every week and have become contenders by season’s end.”

So, as another close NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season comes to an end, who has the advantage and what will make the difference?

“The ‘X’ factor for this race will be help from teammates,” said SPEED pit reporter Ray Dunlap. “We saw at Phoenix that Hornaday got some help from Kevin Harvick and Harvick will be in the Homestead race again. From my viewpoint, Hornaday and Skinner have raced each other all year long, so let them race each other only at the end. But it’s a business, as well, and you’ve got to look at doing whatever you can to get that championship for your sponsors. I just hope that one of those ancillary trucks entered doesn’t make a difference in who wins the title. I hope Mike and Ron can race each other and let the best man win.”

SPEED’s Adam Alexander, who joined the SPEED on-air team full time this season, agrees Harvick (Hornaday’s truck owner and teammate) just may be a factor.

“Kevin is going to be in the Homestead race and we all saw at Phoenix how Kevin being in the race can impact things,” Alexander said. “I don’t think he’s going to do anything crazy like take out Skinner, but I think he’s going to do everything he can to play mind games with the No. 5 team to make sure they earn the championship. Whoever wins will probably celebrate more than they would winning the title another way because Skinner and Hornaday have really gone back and forth this year. This has been as classic a battle for a championship as you can have.”

Added Voda: “Friday’s race at Homestead is going to be crazy. Look at what happened at Phoenix -- Hornaday cut that 57-point gap down to 29 points. Both drivers are good at any track. Leading a lap is going to be huge, so qualifying is going to be important and the first lap is going to be important. The pit stops are going to be crucial. Everything is just so heightened that you can’t miss a single second. You can’t step away from the TV for one second because that could be the moment that Skinner falters or Hornaday jumps into the lead. It’s going to be so exciting that I wish it was tomorrow. I can’t wait.”

While Alexander gives the advantage to Skinner, SPEED’s Rick Allen isn’t so sure: “I think the points lead will bounce back and forth two or three times during the Homestead race and will come down to the final five or 10 laps where we won’t know who the champion is going to be until the checkered flag waves.”

SPEED broadcast schedule for NCTS finale from Homestead-Miami:

NCTS Practice (Friday, 10:30 a.m. ET, LIVE)

NCTS Qualifying (Friday, 5 p.m. ET, LIVE)

NCTS Setup pre-race show w/Krista Voda (Friday, 7:30 p.m. ET, Live)
