WOOD: No. 21 Team Looks to Improve on Top Ten Finish with Unique Approach to PIR
~TruckSeries.com Report

Jon Wood never gets tired of Top-10 finishes. But he believes there's always room for improvement.

Wood, driver of the No. 21 Bush's Baked Beans Ford F-150, wants more than Top 10 runs every week in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He wants wins.

Wood and Mark Martin have combined for 10 Top-10 finishes in 15 races this year. The only thing that matters in the final two races of the year - starting with Friday night's Arizona Casino 150 at the Phoenix International Raceway - are victories.

The Wood Brothers/JTG Racing team has been on the verge of making a breakthrough, Wood said. The Phoenix track plays into the team's strengths because it's best to approach it like an over-sized short track. Although it's one-mile in length, Wood said the team will bring one of its short-track Ford F-150s. And they will bring some of their best short-track setups.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY

Jon Wood, Driver of the No. 21 Bush's Baked Beans Ford F-150:
"The Top-10 finishes are nice, but that's not what we're racing for," he said. "There's no secret we've had one of the best trucks for most of the season, but until we turn that into a win, it doesn't mean anything. It's a good problem to having, I guess - to be frustrated with running up front every week.

"This race team needs a win. It deserves a win. As a group, we've come so far in a short amount of time. And it hasn't been by accident; it's been with a lot of hard work and dedication from everyone at Wood Brothers/JTG Racing. The only true reward is a victory. We've got two races left this year to make that happen. We're running out of time, but we've got a good shot this week."

John Monsam, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Bush's Baked Beans Ford F-150:
"Phoenix is flat, so there's only one workable racing groove - along the bottom," he said. "That will be our focus in practice. Once the race starts, it will be like a typical short-track race with everyone pushing and shoving to get to the bottom. If you have to use a little muscle to get to the bottom, you have to make sure you keep the fenders straight. Jon's got a pretty good feel for that, so we should be in good shape."

FAST & FUN FACTS:

- Jon Wood has 100 career starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with two wins, 15 Top-Fives and 49 Top-10s.
- Wood also has 85 career starts in the Busch Series with 12 Top 10s. He is one of 14 drivers in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history to make at least 100 career starts.
- Wood is the grandson of legendary driver Glen Wood and the son of Wood Brothers/JTG Racing co-owner of Eddie Wood.
- Wood's combined earnings in NASCAR, including Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman Truck series starts, is $4,072,015.
