This Week in Ford NBS Racing: Edwards, Kuettel and Ambrose

Carl Edwards

November 6, 2007 - Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 60 World Financial Group Ford Fusion, and crew chief Pierre Kuettel discuss their strategy for the remainder of the season after clinching the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series Championship. Edwards and Kuettel talked about Phoenix during the post-race press conference in Texas.

CARL EDWARDS, driver of the No. 60 World Financial Group Ford Fusion – WHAT IS THE PLAN FROM HERE ON TO THE END OF THE YEAR? IS IT KIND OF JUST GO LIKE CRAZY FOR VICTORIES? “Yeah, that’s it. I mean we’ve got two races to get a win and that’s what we’re going to go do; do everything we can to win. I love going to Phoenix; it’s going to be great. Then Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead, we’ve run well there before, so it will be good. Hopefully, we can try some stuff with the cars and things like that.”

PIERRE KUETTEL – No. 60 crew chief – WILL YOU PREPARE THE CARS TO GO LIKE CRAZY OR TRY STUFF OR WHAT? “Yeah, we’ve got a really good car we’re taking to Phoenix. Honestly, I’d like to win there because that’s my hometown. We’ve had a couple of victories there with Jeff [Burton] and Homestead, yeah, we’re going to try some new stuff. We’ll probably be a little more risky. As long as we don’t wreck Jack [Roush]’s race cars, we’ll be okay.”

Marcos Ambrose, driver of the No. 59 Kingsford Ford Fusion, heads back to Phoenix International Raceway where he finished 22nd in the spring race. Ambrose talks about how his season has changed since the spring and the challenges of the mile track.

MARCOS AMBROSE – No. 59 Kingsford Ford Fusion - GOING BACK TO PHOENIX NEXT WEEK. IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT HAS CHANGED SINCE YOUR FIRST VISIT THERE. “We qualified well there, but we slipped back in the race. I feel like our short-track program has come a long way since then. I’m looking forward to another one. I want to finish this year strong and Phoenix hopefully will lift us for next season. We’re really focused on next year from here on out, just trying to finish strong so we’ve got confidence and direction for next year’s cars and next year’s program. I like Phoenix; it’s a great race track and a great place.”

PHOENIX IS A UNIQUE RACE TRACK. “It is. It’s a race track and they all have their little quirks. It’s a hard place to drive, turn one is very tight and banked and turn four is very fast and flat, so it’s hard to get a perfect setup on the car. But you never get a perfect setup, but we’re really excited about it and will have a shot at it and just want to build towards the future.”

YOU’VE HAD A COUPLE OF RACES WITH COOLER WEATHER, AND THE NEXT TWO RACES WILL BE IN WARMER PLACES. DOES THAT AFFECT YOU AT ALL? “Compared to the summer we’ve had, anything is cooler than what this summer was. I really struggled in the heat at California, Bristol and Daytona, so I’m enjoying the cool weather now. Anything compared to California’s second race is cool to me, so I don’t think it will make a huge difference.”
